BAGS OF LOVE
"It's My Very Own - Bags of Love" is a project started in the United States by Barbara Neher. It is a program that works with communities and local Child & Family Services offices. When a child must be removed from their home for their own safety, our Bags are designed to help ease that transition. Often, a child must leave their home immediately and cannot take anything with them, such as toys, clothes, or personal items. We provide them something to call their very own.
We begin with a large handmade cloth Bag with a pocket sewn on the outside. The pocket is filled with personal care items and a letter, in which we let them know that we are sorry for the trouble they are going through, and we hope this bag will help them feel better. The contents of the Bag are age and gender appropriate. They are basic, but special: A kid-sized handmade quilt, a teddy bear, toys for younger children and age appropriate items for older children.
Our particular chapter started in January 2010 with four Child and Family Services offices. Since then, we've expanded to start several new chapters and reach over 25 offices!
